HPSO plant fest

outdoor sale

After a short hiatus for the fall plant sale, HPSO came up with something new: an abbreviated sale lasting just one afternoon, following a morning lecture. I had planned on attending the talk, but setting up the Jockey Hill booth took us right up to the moment the audience was released for early shopping.  Scott and Linda were both there (they found the plant they were searching for in our booth) so perhaps they will give an account of the morning event. Previous plant sales had all been under cover, so this outdoor venue at PCC Rock Creek was a treat.

Michelle Timberman

Here’s Michelle overseeing her domain. We arranged and rearranged in an effort to show her stunning plants off to full advantage.

Bananas

We were all going a little bananas by the time the shoppers arrived.

flags and blue sky

See that blue sky? After a week of rain and thunder storms, we felt blessed. I even added a few banners to the display. It was a fun day, and I felt fortunate to be part of the action. If HPSO opts to repeat this event next year, I highly recommend it.

Oh my gosh. I would have been going bananas too. What an enticing event, all that lush foliage and flower. Wow. And the banners look awesome. Congrats!

  2. Scott Weber Says:

It was so great to see you there, Ricki…and what are the chances that the ONE plant I really hoped to find was at your booth! That reminds me…I need to email her to see if I can get a few more :-)

  3. Alison Says:

The banners look great, love those colorful stripes! Sounds like a fun sale but also a lot of work.

  4. ricki Says:

Grace~Wish you lived closer…you would have enjoyed this event.

Scott~Glad I could introduce you to Michelle. You will find her to be a great resource.

    Alison~Fun work, though.

  5. Laura @ gravy lessons Says:

I’m happy to hear that the weather cleared for the event. The banners and plants look glorious!

  6. linda Says:

Lovely to see Ricky! And I snapped up that plant ( grass) when I saw Scott”s look of excitement , though I can’t now remember what it is. I do need more of them ? For my new lawn removing project.

  7. Jane / MulchMaid Says:

Your banners add a beautiful festive look to the booth! I was sorry not to attend, but I am suffering major guilt about the huge number of unplanted items in my plant ghetto already. I just knew I wouldn’t be able to avoid adding to them if I went!

  8. Loree /danger garden Says:

How wonderful, plants outside under the blue sky. Doesn’t get any better! I hope the event was a financial success so it bears repeating next year.

(Oh and your banners really did add a nice festive touch!)

  9. Ann Says:

What a great change of scenery for the HPSO! I really like this concept a lot. The banners look great too! I love a waving textile in the breeze.

  10. Heather Says:

The banners looks fabulous! I really hope they do this sale again next year.

  11. Anna K Says:

Looked like a wonderfully festive event! Sunlight beats fluorescents any day! Sorry to have missed it, but you know I had a good reason. Next time… I hope!

  12. ricki Says:

Laura~Cleared up just in time, with overcast for the setting up, which was perfect.

Linda~Looks like you and Scott will be venturing out my way sometime soon. Give me a heads up and maybe we can meet.

Jane~Too busy to shop was my only protection.

Loree~I don’t know how it went for others, but we were busy, busy busy. Even if it had rained, I would be all for the outdoor setting.

Ann~Next year you can bring John and we’ll all toast your first anniversary.

Heather~Me too, and thanks. I have been kicking myself for not giving you my spot at the lecture.

Anna K~You had the best of reasons, and I’m eager to hear all about it.

  13. Peter/Outlaw Says:

Gorgeous banners Ricki & the sale looks and sounds like it was quite a success. Too bad the Heronswood sale was happening at the same time!

  14. Diana Studer Says:

once we are in False Bay, then we’ll return to the Kirstenbosch annual indigenous plant sale. So many of the treasures that will move with me, were bought there. Including one year when it POURed with rain and we got soaked!

  15. ricki Says:

Peter~I know: our embarrassment of riches keeps putting us in the position of making difficult choices. Your outing sounded way fun.

Diana~We Oregonians are fabled to have webs between our toes…the better to paddle around any waterlogged plant sales.

I can’t stress enough how much I appreciate this post.
