Kris~All we have done is surround it with netting for deer protection. No pruning at all, and still the growth process is slow as molasses.

Hi, Love your blog! I have a question about your Acer pseudoplatanus Puget Pink.
I just bought one online today in a 2 gal bucket saying it has 3-4 growth years in it. My husband asked me how long it took to grow and I said I don't think it matters since it will look so nice with the colors, then I read your blog...see told you so. Someday someone will have a priceless tree to admire, in the mean time I will just wait and see! My question is: Since they are so small did you need to prune it or shape it in any way? Or do you just let it go and make minor adjustment if needed? And by the way did yours get any larger since 2008? Thanks!

Neat ferns, and I love the cool stripes of the grass. But best of all I like your description of the conifers going to the salon for a frosting job!

Nice foliage, those ferns are lovely and I plan to try some in a shady spot.
Conifers are a rare sight here, I enjoyed seeing them.

Your have some beautiful blooms, that 'Night Heron' is awesome.

The epimedium is pretty, I appreciate the contortions you go through. I had to do the same to get shots of my abutilon over the winter.

Scott~They were alliums for the longest time: another of those pesky name changes. I tried several times to leave comments on your blog, but it cut out every time...anyway, loved your allium post, and because they are in the onion family, the critters mostly leave them alone.

Linda~Ah! Rodgersia! Now I know what else to put in that bed. Thanks!

James~Fortunately, I was well out of the sight-lines of neighbors, but they have plenty of opportunities to get their laughs.

Loree~Well, the buds were there when I brought it home. 'Fire Charm' was front and center when I bopped over to Joy Creek to pick up "just one bag of gravel"...Hah!
